The color of z

The social landscape of our world is ever-changing. A new generation brings in a new wave of progress- one that often shapes and molds our society into something better than it was before. This has never been more true than with Generation Z, our unapologetic, progressive, digital-native future leaders. Amidst all the upheaval of challenging the status quo, they have managed to pry open the doors of the fashion world, revealing an industry that thrives on exclusivity and refusal to change. In one fell swoop Gen Z called out decades of toxic fashion culture and demanded radical change, pontificating what we know to be true but have yet to witness: fashion should be an accessible tool for every person to enjoy, not an exclusive club reserved for a select few. Seeing someone who looks like you represented on runways, in magazines and on billboards shouldn’t just exist as a pipe dream, or as a “one day” that never comes.

The Color of Z explores the social culture of Generation Z though the lens of fashion inclusivity, specifically how their steadfast attitude towards self-expression and tolerance has changed the visibility of previously underrepresented communities in media. Though the subject is at times heavy, this project leads with positivity- invoking the right to celebrate what progress has been made and the people who have made it possible. The Color of Z was made for everyone.
